OUTSIDE
The kitchen and dining area leads out onto a big front deck over looking the ocean. There's a big outdoor corner sofa, bean bags plus a bench and surface so you can sit, eat and watch the view.
The garden has a big hill that leads up to a large deck with our two outdoor heated bath tubs. The natural elevation means that you are right up away from anything obstructing your view of the universe, enjoy the Dark Sky Sanctuary and the spot has panoramic views of Tryphena Harbour.
Ancient Pohutukawa trees dominate the front lawn, so we've hung some chair hammocks, the perfect spot to chill and read a book.
Paddleboards and kayaks sit on our small jetty at the bottom of the lawn, they are free for you to use whenever you like, we just ask you wear one of the lifejackets and check the weather.
Puriri Bay is predominantly calm and flat protected by a reef that runs out to Bird Islet. The bay is perfect for snorkelling, looking out for Dolphins, Orcas and watching the Shags that nest in the trees that fringe the bay.

Terms, conditions and extra info:
Hosts live onsite: Pete and Lucy live in an adjoining but seperate part of the house. We are on hand to help out with anything guests need, but leave you to your own devices. You won't have to worry about solar power, water or gas, we take care of it all, so you can just relax. We both work away from the house at times, so if not at the house can be reached by phone.
Included:
Bed linen, towels, toilet roll
Kitchen basics: Dish wash liquid, kitchen towel, oil, salt & pepper, basic spices, milk, tea, coffee, sugar and a selection of herbal teas
Power:
Please note, when we brought the house it was running on a series of car batteries, this means that there is only plug sockets in one of the main queen bedrooms. There are some solar lights and many other plug sockets to charge your phones etc.. Guests don't tend to worry about this, as they have chosen to come to an off grid island... but if you need to power something important over night like breathing apparatus, please let us know.
The hair drier... They aren't a thing on the Barrier, they require too much power, so we don't have them and please don't plug in yours.
Washing - there is no washing machine in the guests space due to water & power conservation. If you are staying for a longer period or have just come off the walking tracks just ask and we will be more than happy to put on a load for you if the sun is high in the sky and water tanks are full.
Bringing or coming by boat:
We are right on the water, between two boat ramps, ample parking for boat trailers and overlook a mooring area - please enquire. Get in touch if you are coming by boat. There is a current rahui that restricts anchoring in the bay, so you must plan ahead.
Children:
The house is fine for babies before the walking and crawling stage, we have two portacots available. The front decking is not enclosed and the proximity of the garden to the water means it's not the easiest to be with very young mobile & active children. Send us a booking request and we'll be able to advise if the space is suitable for your family.
Dogs: We have protected and rare Pateke (brown teal) ducks that frolic along the shoreline on the beach in front of the house and kororā (blue penguins) nesting under the house which. If you have a well behaved dog that is bird aversion trained, please send us an enquiry and we'll be able to advise if its possible for your dog to stay as well. We also have two small dogs onsite - a whippet and a French bull dog that our guests seem to love.
Cancellation policy: We can discuss this with you at time of booking and it will be outlined with payment information. Please not COVID-19 travel restriction related cancellations we offer transfer of booking or full refund.
